Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was captured whilst I was walking around Manchester city centre on a photo walk

Time

It was taken one late afternoon, around 16:00 in February so it was beginning to get dark

Lighting

I like to use available light, and as mentioned it was getting dark outside so the lighting in the hairdressers gave the condensation a a nice backlight and a little glistening

Equipment

I used my Leica Q2 Monochrom Reporter with its 28mm f1.7 Summilux lens

Inspiration

As I was walking past the window, I really liked the silhouettes of the figures cast by the harsh strip lights behind the condensation dribbling down the glass

Editing

I used Lightroom to do a little post processing - I usually only up the clarity a touch and brighten the image slightly. On a monochrome camera, it’s best not to blow out the image so I tend to purposefully underexpose slightly and brighten up later

In my camera bag

I generally only take this camera, a few colour filters (depending on what I am photographing) and a spare battery

Feedback

It’s amazing what you will see if you look for interesting things through windows in a city - reflections, people, cool window displays, characterful animals…
