The Indian cobra, also known as the Spectacled cobra and Asian cobra is found across the Indian subcontinent and is an officially protected species under the Indian Wildlife Act. It is considered sacred and revered within the Hindu religion. I photographed this during one of my several visits to the Gir Forest in western India. This is a composite photo.

Thank you Gayle for your query. I had the good fortune to spend three years in India's Gir Forest studying Asiatic lions several decades ago. Saw quite a number of cobras during that time. The Indian cobra kills about 15,000 people a year. While I didn't know that at the time to be sure I was using a telephoto plus a bit of cropping to get this kind of photo.
