Behind The Lens

Location

with both feet in the water in rio Caño Negro, Guanacaste. Feeling the stream and feeling alive.

Time

it was late in the day, about 30 minutes before sunset.

Lighting

the light on a cloudy day with the odd light beam is specially nice. I waded around till I had the best angle for the reflections

Equipment

A very old manual Nikkor 18mm f/3.5 and my good old D4. Land Rover, waterproof sandals and decent tyres to get there. Tripod? you kidding.. in the river?

Inspiration

I was looking for birds but tourists saw them off .. still I liked the light even better so I went for it. It helps to have a second body for wide angles and not so fantastic light.

Editing

Yes. Put it in exposure x6 and used one of my own presets which I call crispy FP4. If you ever used Ilford and an orange filter you know what I mean.

In my camera bag

In Costa Rica a Big bird lens (as heavy as possible), the D500 and my D4 with the landscape and candid lens. Meaning the 18mm, a 24-35 Sigma or just the old 24-70 and an 85 Sigma 1.4 (old and not heavy) . Nothing else, no spare battery needed for a D4 or a d500. My 64 GB XQD memory cards are also big enough and fit both.

Feedback

See beauty around you. breathe and take it in and take time to look for the best spot. Choose aperture and time wisely. Don't leave it to built in magic. And process only as little as possible.
