Creative Architectural Fine Art Abstract photography. I called this creative composition of the interior stairwell of Penrhyn Castle , 'Xanadu' , because of the story behind its builder as well as its architectural resemblance to the Xanadu of the Ancient tales. Lord Penrhyn was like a real life 'Citizen Kane'. making his money from mining in the Welsh hillsides and investments in other Victorian industries like railroads and bridges he decided to build himself a castle better than the historic castle that his aristocratic friends posessed. A richmans folly, built in the medieval style with variations from the best Welsh materials he could buy and with as much grandiose style as could be fitted into one space, he incorporated these grand moroccan and Neoclassical influenced staircases that would not look out of place in a painting by Escher. The illuminance on the grand , sprawling alcoves and architraves and variance of colours comes from the artificial light from the Victorian electric chandeliers combined with the natural light and colours from the stained glass windows that are out of view. Combining the lighting effects with a low POV produced the depth of field and atmosphere and drama and opulence that I hoped to achieve.
