Behind The Lens

Location

The photo has been taken near my house in the North of Italy.

Time

I love that place for the backlight during the afternoon. It was around 3pm in March 2018.

Lighting

I like to shoot in back light all the time I can, because it creates natural gradients behind the subject. It's not easy to control the exposure and the AF but it worths!

Equipment

This photo has been taken with a Nikon D5 that has probably one of the fastest AF in the camera's world and a Nikkor 300mm f/2,8 that I love for the balancing and the result. I never use tripod so that I can move fast adjusting the position on the field. No flashes were used.

Inspiration

I get inspiration directly from the dogs. I observe them and their face and movement trying to understand quickly where they are great and how they mean themselves.

Editing

I always post process my pictures using Photoshop CC that allows me to give my mood to the photo. I usually improve what I already achieved during the shooting without deleting or adding any object.

In my camera bag

My bag is a really heavy bag because I can't go outside without my 200mm f/2 and the 300mm f/2,8 with the Nikon D5. I love the way Nikon performs in my hands and I feel really comfortable with settings and features.

Feedback

I think that the "Dogs in Action" is a world where if you try correctly with a bit of knowledge, you can't come back so be care to do it only if you accept the idea to change your way to make photos. I suggest to everyone that wants to try this kind of photos, to look for the perfect location instead thinking to correct and adjust everything in post processing. The beautiful part of the photography is the challenge of scouting. Look for the places that people usually drop. Those places are usually the best for the light ;)
