It was late morning with the sun fighting with the little snowfall.Lighting
The light was incredible thanks to the melting snow during a light snowfall. The sun was visible despite the wet and the little snowy weather. The magician of the light is thanks to the reflections and flares of the drops and snowflakes hit by the sun in backlight.Equipment
I used my favourite Nikon D5 with a Nikon 300mm f/2,8 VR IF-ED black. I don't use anything else because I like to exploit the natural light. The Tripod is something useless in these kind of photos.Inspiration
The thing that inspire me all the time in my photos is the dog. Every dog is different and amazing. It's my duty to find what is it's best feature inside.Editing
I post processed the photo with Adobe Photoshop CC working on the right balancing of the lights and shadows, on the details of the photo that I usually care a lot (every part and every detail of the photo is important for me, from the stick to the hair of the dog), on the correct balancing and choice of color's shades and on the control of the light that was very strong in the background behind the dog.In my camera bag
I'm very proud of my backpack that contains usually only the things I need for the action shooting. All the rest (other camera and other lenses) can stay at home. Inside my backpack there is the Nikon D5, a Nikkor 300mm f/2,8 IF-ED VR black and a Nikkor 200mm ED VRII. Then there is a waterproof hard case for memory cards, some batteries and many cleaning tissues. Then I alway bring with me some water poof clothes for my gear and some protections for my elbows to lie down on the ground if necessary.Feedback
I suggest people to get transported by the action trying to understand the movement of the dog before going in to the shooting. I suggest to get the best photos in the first minutes because the dogs get tired easily and i't really visible on the pictures. Then, I suggest to go in the wood without strong light (sometimes I look for them but it's not easy and the result is really extreme) with great uniform shadows. It's really important to communicate with the dog's owner to explain them what we really aspect from them so that they can help us with their dogs. Then, don't use flash or strobes because you can scare the dogs. For last, don't use tripod because you need to move fast and it's dangerous if the dog hit it during the run. Have fun with dogs and the photos will be great!
