Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in my kitchen. To be honest...this faucet had never been this clean since the day it came out of the box.

Time

I took this at night so that no light came through the windows of the kitchen.

Lighting

No light except for the hot-shoe speed flash. As for the settings on the flash? I don't remember. I had just gotten the flash and was experimenting. The flash has an auto mode that supposedly sets the correct settings for the aperture, shutter-speed, etc. etc. So...auto mode that speed flash?

Equipment

I used the Canon EOS 70D. I think I used a 55-250mm lens with no tripod. I had a hot-shoe speed-light (or flash...I've heard it both ways). No bouncing of light. I wanted it to be as stark as possible.

Inspiration

I really like water. I like capturing the things you can't see because it goes by too fast. I had taken some (admittedly mediocre) drinking fountain (or bubbler) pix and I thought that a faucet would be more fun because of the little bubbles. I wasn't wrong.

Editing

I switched it to mono-chrome, black and white. I then cranked the highlights up and the shadows down. I increased the contrast like crazy. I really wanted to bubbles to pop and the metal of the faucet to be striking. But there was a lot of fiddling.
