Location
This photo was shot on the west side of the island of O`ahu, Hawaii.Time
This was captured at 11:24am.Lighting
When I'm shooting underwater I only use natural lighting. I wanted to capture this over/under shot with the sun rays shining down on the mermaid so I positioned us so that we could accomplish that. Turned out pretty well.Equipment
This was shot using a Canon 7D Mark II | Tokina 10-17 fisheye | Aquatech Elite Water HousingInspiration
Sometimes inspiration comes from other people. My mermaid model Rachel told me she had been wanting to capture an image like this. I did everything in my power to make it happen and I think it turned out beautifully. It was easier to capture then I thought it would be because Rachel and Adrian, the standup paddle-boarder were so good at what they do and easy to work with.Editing
I do all of my post-processing in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. The main aspects of the photo I adjust are the white balance, contrast, shadows and highlights. In my camera bag
I am usually shooting either underwater or close to the ocean, shooting landscapes and seascapes. This is what I pack in my Lowepro bags: CANON EOS 7D Mark II with EF-S 18-135mm| Tokina AT-X 107 AF NH Fisheye 10-17mm | Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 | Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 | Oben CT-3581 Carbon Fiber Tripod With BE-126T Ball Head | Aquatech Elite 7D2 Sports Housing | HOYA HD3 CIR-PL and HOYA EVO Antistatic UV filters.Feedback
This image was captured because my mermaid model Rachel had a vision for what she wanted to see. I listened to her wishes and planned out the shoot accordingly. I think sometimes all you have to do is be open to other's creativity around you and let it inspire you.
