Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo at the Greensboro Science Center in Greensboro, NC. I saw this peacock walking on the sidewalk heading in my direction. I love that the Science Center doesn't cage these birds. They're allowed to roam freely throughout the center.

Time

I took this photo in the early afternoon on Mother's Day 2016. It was a great Mother's Day treat for me to be able to capture this photograph. There is so much I love about it!

Lighting

No reflectors or anything like that. Just loved the way the sun was lighting up the peacock.

Equipment

I used my Canon 6d. The lens I used was a Sigma 150mm-500mm f5.0-6.3 lens (canon mount). 313mm, f6.3, 1/320, and the iso is 640. No tripod, flashes, or relectors were used.

Inspiration

I was documenting (with my camera) my families mother's day present to me which was the trip to the Science Center, and I saw this beautiful peacock walking near me. It feathers fully spread. I have never seen in person anyway their feathers fully spread. I wanted to take a headshot with its pretty feathers in the background. It always amazes me how much detail a camera, and a good lens can pick up!

Editing

Darken the corners a smidge. Wanted to draw attention to the head.

In my camera bag

My Sigma 150mm-500mm f5.0-6.3 for wildlife. Canon EF 70mm-200mm f2.8L IS USM (version one) for events. Canon EF 135mm f2L USM for talking outdoor portraits of my active toddler. I also use a Canon 6d. If I need my reach for whatever reason I sometimes use my Canon t5i.

Feedback

Look at all the things around you. Beauty is everywhere. Be patient. The right shot is worth the wait!
