Location
I shot this 2 years ago at the The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in West Virginia. The Summit is just a little under 11,000 acres sitting right next to the New River Gorge National Park. It is the home of Boy Scout National Jamboree, and the location of the 2019 World Jamboree. It is also the home of the Paul R. Christen National High Adventure Base, and James C. Justice National Scout Camp. I run the High Adventure Photography Program. As a photographer I fell in love with The Summit when I attended the 2013 National Jamboree. It is a photographers dream. I get to help Scouts and their adult leaders become better photographers and do it a scenic wonderland with almost every action packed adventure sport one could ever dream off. There are day's I still pinch myself myself so I remind myself I am getting to live the dream!Time
It was a little after lunch on a nice cloudy day. The Skate Park has a practice area that allows the Skaters to trying the things they have always want to, with a nice pit of foam blocks to land in when they don't quite stick the landing. We had a week when we had 4 amazing Skaters there at THE PARK!Lighting
Nothing really, I do like that cloudy day provide with an added intensity to the over all shot.Equipment
I shot this with a Nikon D7200. I have hung on to a 16-105mm kit lens that came with one of my older D7100. I parked my self right next to the ramp so that when they did their thing I would be right underneath them when they where in the air.Inspiration
Its hard not to be inspired when you find myself in such an amazing location as The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve. One day I am shooting skateboarders, the next day its BMX, mountain biking, rafting, climbing, and a whole host of shooting sports and more. All in a setting that is by itself is inspiring with all the natural beauty that is this area of West Virginia!Editing
I shot all raw so there is always post processing for my images. I did darken the clouds to increase the drama they provide, and did lighten the shadows a bit.In my camera bag
I carry a Nikon D500, D750 and 2 D7200 all with battery grips. Tamron SP AF 10-24mm F/3.5-4.5 Di II LD, Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2, Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 DI USD, Tokina 100mm f/2.8 AT-X M100 AF Pro D, Nikon 50mm f/1.8G AF-S NIKKOR Lens, Nikon 180mm f/2.8D ED-IF AF NIKKOR. Nikkor 200-500mm Zoom. I also carry 8 100X150 ND filters for Landscapes. 3 carbon fiber tripods and a monopod.Feedback
knowing your equipment and what its can do helps, then using peak of action to capture the subject to keep them sharp. Adventure sports finding the dramatic angle can really make the difference in the shot!
