Location
This was taken on Bonaventure Island, in Quebec, Canada. The island is host of the largest colony of Northern Gannets in America (50 000 couples nest at the sime time!).Time
I spent 3 days photographing at the island from early morning to late in the day so to document the subject thourouly... This one was taken in the morning. under a cloudy sky.Lighting
Nothing special other then some clouds!Equipment
I used my Canon 1D-X with a Canon LEF-24-105mm, handheld.Inspiration
I was impressed by those thousands of birds nesting at eqaul distance form each other. Then I noticed that birds (mates) were flying back to the nests and had to do a few pass to figure out where their mate and nest were. So I shot this image from a very high point of view to represent what birds see when they fly back to their nest... A true Bird's eye view!Editing
Simple processing was used.In my camera bag
In the fied I always travel with 2 Canon bodies and lenses to ranging from 16mm to 500mm + extenders. This is the only way to be ready for any wildlife situation!Feedback
To get better at photogrhing birds in flight I often go to places near my home to train with local birds. The faster and more eratic they are, the better it is... Practice! Practice! It's the only way you get better with birds in flight and it increases your chance of not missing the perfect shot!
