As sun was almost gone dragonfly was in shadow and part of background was in sun and part in shadow ( that made this beautiful color gradients ), so I had to set higher ISO to get enough exposure on dragonfly as I was shooting from hand (1/400 sec).Equipment
Photo was taken with: Canon 550D + Tamron 70-300VC lens, hand held, natural light.Inspiration
I love nature and dragonflies are fascinating to me since I was a kid ( helicopter bug :) ) - I also enjoy macro photography because it can show so much interesting details and colors of something so small you usually don't find it interesting - like a window to another world.Editing
Photo was cropped, as colors were little dull saturation was increased a bit and some noise reduction because of high ISO.In my camera bag
Camera 550D, samyang 8mm, tamron 70-300mm VC, helios 44-2, Tair 11A and few m42 extension tubes...Feedback
Usually I take photos of bugs with Helios or Tair lens with tubes because they are sharper and I can get better magnification, but this time when I saw this scene 70-300 was on camera and I knew I didn't have time to change it all, so I just took a shot with it. Moment later dragonfly was gone and while I was waiting him to return on this stick, whole background changed to shadow and color gradients were gone... So sometimes you just have to catch that moment in time, without preparation, before it is gone.
