Location
In front of my houseTime
It was late morning on a bright sunny dayLighting
The sunshine hitting the caterpillar was perfect, the only question was background. The angle I chose gave me dark shade from the trees behind. Think: contrasty lighting, usually a problem for the camera, but which sometimes pays off big time...as in this case.Equipment
I was using my Nikon D200 with a Nikon 55-300mm zoom...ISO 200, 1/500, f13, at 300mm...no tripodInspiration
My cameras and lenses allow me to see nature in a special, unique way. Whenever I'm outdoors my mind automatically shifts to capturing close-up.Editing
no post-production...though, a minor crop.In my camera bag
In enjoying the great outdoors, it's camera only; unless I have a particular goal in mind. Then I pack up my heavy duty tripod, along with two other light ones (mostly for shooting low perspective)...always two cameras and three lenses.Feedback
Make a connection to the subjects you like to capture; so, in a sense, you are planning, thinking about possibilities, when you go out with your camera. Think: mindset. No matter what the subject, you need to have an emotional connection to that subject in order to bring out the best in that subject. You must love your caterpillar.
