I had to stare at this photo for quite some time to tell if this was a manipulation. Either way, WOW. SO POWERFUL!!!

This is INSANE for a wave. I would have hated to be too close to that wave coming in. Truly amazing photography you did. Very well deserved on your award. Congrats.

In my opinion, this superb shot would look even better in a full mono conversion...a fantastic dramatic shot!

You have a good eye, and were blessed to be in the right place at the right time...great use of shutter speed...the wave has become a sculpture captured in time...very good work!

I'm wondering if the wave is going to land on the people, usually with good force.

Location
This photo was taken at Porthcawl South Wales during a 3 week stormy period in February 2014.Time
I got down to Porthcawl early as it can get very busy with photographers jostling for the best spots during storms and this shot was taken at just gone 13:00 when the tide was going out and most people had left as the waves were getting small then out of the blue came this one.Lighting
The day was miserable it was howling a gale with loads of spray and mist coming up off the sea it was a case of trying to make the best of what was available which was pretty poor.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon 500d, canon 55-250 lens on a Giottos Tripod and a trigger.Inspiration
I'd seen photos of storms and waves at Portcawl before but wanted to see and experience the power of nature for myself and try capture a moment for myself.Editing
I didn't doo to much to it just upped the structure in photoshop to bring out the detail in the wave and give it a slightly "the perfect storm" lookIn my camera bag
Nowadays I don't leave home without my Canon 5dmkiii which has furthered my images greatly and its usually attached to a 24-105 for my general walkabout stuff. Theres also a 16-35 2.8 more for landscape and night time exploits and finally a 70-200 2.8 mkii which is one hell of a lens that I couldn't recommend highly enough what a beast of a lens for sharpness and speed.Feedback
The weather and conditions change quickly but be where you want to be early to get a good spot and be the last person to leave just in case that one special moment arises when everyone else has packed up and gone. Also be patient and be prepared to sift through lots of just missed shots
