Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken on a Island beach called Half Moon Cay owned by Carnival. This gentleman worked on the cruise ship as a table magician and was looking for a few promotional shots.

Time

Being cruise ship workers we are very restricted to shore time so this was directly in midday sun. Extremely hot so it was great to be in the water.

Lighting

No this was all natural midday sun.

Equipment

I shoot with an Olympus Omd em1 mki and this was with the kit lens 12-40mm f2.8. No other equipment was used as I was in the water with him.

Inspiration

He wanted some shots in the water for promotional use as a magician. So I just gave him some instructions of rising out the water with arms raised as if he was controlling it.

Editing

Yes, I wanted to increase the drama.I added a lot more contrast and clarity and played with the colours until I got a look that I was happy with.

In my camera bag

I always have in my bag a 45mm f2.8 prime, a 12-40mm f2.8 and a 70-150mm f2.8. This pretty much covers all things that I would want to shoot whilst I was out. Spare batteries and memory cards are always useful.

Feedback

Make sure you’ve got a nice fast shutter speed to freeze the motion. This was taken at 1/4000s. Also make sure you have a nice solid base in the water as a few times I was nearly taken out by the waves.
