Nice combo! I have - had the same vocal shield and mic. Where is the cable?

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo while assembling my new microphone setup for my home recording studio. It was taken in my living room, right by the window where natural light was pouring in. I saw the opportunity for a good shot and took it.

Time

I believe I took this photo around 1:00 when sunlight was pouring in the window. When shooting at home, I always take note of good locations for natural light, and the times of day they are peaking.

Lighting

As I said already, it's all about the sunshine! Find the best times and places for natural lighting and your pictures will shine...literally!

Equipment

Nothing but an LG stylo and natural light. My phone is the only camera I can afford at the moment, but I don' t let that keep me from taking memorable photos.

Inspiration

I guess my love for making music. All forms of art, especially music, poetry, and photography, inspire me deeply, as I feel they call us all to climb towards a higher purpose. In many ways, my music and my photography are mirror images of one another. Since I am limited by my lack of professional equipment, I have to learn how to make the best out of my limitations. It can be frustrating at times, but it also forces me to learn new techniques, and focus on the fundamentals. By the way, If you'd like to check out the music behind the picture, you can hear a few songs on my reverbnation page: www.reverbnation.com/MichaelFranklinMusic for free, or you can also download songs from my first album on Itunes. It was recorded with my former band, Hogan' s Fountain and the title of the album is " Shine Your Light On Me." In fact, the title track may go well with this photo! p.s. If you like what you hear, there will be much more coming soon, as I intend on releasing both an acoustic E.P. and a full length album later this fall, 2016.

Editing

I simply put one superpunch filter on to accentuate the details, and I got this filter from the adobe photoshop express free trial. Just like with my music, I try to keep effects to a minimum and remain as natural as possible. I learned this tip from an opportunity I had to briefly work with a professional L.A. music Producer that has worked with hundreds of major label artists. Less is more...Less is more...Less is more. If I have a modus operandi towards making art...this is it. Make sure your work is good at every stage of production, and focus on the details.

In my camera bag

Right now, I am purely working with a smart phone, and occassionally enhance photos with Adobe photoshop express effects. I would love to purchase a nice camera (or better yet, win one in a viewbug contest) but I am a bit of a starving artist, so right now, I don' t have the luxury of expensive equipment for music, or photography.

Feedback

Honestly, use your eyes, follow your heart, and look for natural light! If a shot looks great through the lens, it' s usually going to be a great picture. As far as technique is concerned, the first, and most important step, is finding great lighting. The right lighting can cover up lots of other inadequacy's. In fact, you can take a picture with a great camera, but have terrible lighting, and the results will be mediocre at best. Likewise, you can take a picture with a low budget camera, but utilizing great lighting, and still yield beautiful results. I certainly do not have any advanced knowledge as a photographer, but I do know that learning the fundamentals is key. In fact, fundamentals are the key to everything you do in life. Take this lesson to heart. There are no shortcuts If you want to learn to do something well, and photography is no exception. The bottom line is, start simple, find great lighting, and try to get a great shot from the moment you take the picture. Only use photoshop and other effects sparingly, if at all, and take lots and lots of pictures. You can always delete the bad ones, but you can't recapture a special moment you failed to shoot...and most importantly, enjoy the process!
