Behind The Lens

Location

This is an abandoned property in Fairfax County, VA. That's all I'm saying.

Time

Early afternoon, I think. This was december, and the sun was pretty low in the sky. One of those "unseasonably warm" days that is getting pretty seasonable.

Lighting

Sun was behind me, light clouds diffusing things on and off throughout the shoot.

Equipment

Canon 7D Mark II with my favorite lens, my 24-105mm F/4. I think that's it.

Inspiration

Any chance to get to shoot with Lea. They're an amazing model, and a dear friend. This was part of a series of Blue Dress shoots we were doing. We'd done black dresses and red dresses. That year we did blue dresses. We got a lot of great photos.

Editing

Nothing intense, if memory serves. Just some sharpening, a little dodging and burning. A little saturation boosts to their hair and the dress.

In my camera bag

Canon 7D Mark II, 24-105mm F/4 Lens. A speedlight and remote trigger for it. A 2nd lens (either my 50mm 1.4 or 85mm 1.4, usually). Lenspen.

Feedback

Find you a model who can just have fun, and knows how to feel the light. Take advantage of the days when the weather is working.
