Location
This was shot at Union 206 Studio in Alexandria VA, using their larger Studio C space.Time
Evening, I do believe.Lighting
We used a large white PLM for our key light and a small softbox for a little backlighting, both camera left.Equipment
The camera was a Canon 7D Mark II, with a 24-105mm f/4L lens. Lights are Honey Badger studio lights, remotely triggered.Inspiration
This was kind of a last minute shoot, our model who booked with us cancelled just a few hours before the shoot, so we check with Nikisha, she said she was free, and we threw a few casual fashion looks together. So much of my work is bold and edgy, I wanted to shoot something that existed on a much more casual level.Editing
Yeah, a little lightroom adjusting, and a bit of a color wash to bring out the orange/teal contrast a bit.In my camera bag
I work with a Canon 7D Mark II and the 24mm-105 f/4L lens most of the time. I also often have a 50mm f/1.8, and a speedlite, just in case. I try to work light, spending most of my energy on the light and the model.Feedback
Find a model who you're comfortable with. Someone you can try stuff out with, who isn't always concerned about how "hot" they look or how dramatic the photo might be. Nikisha and I have a great vibe and I know I can just check in and toss ideas her way and get honest feedback about how she feels. As far as the photo set up and whatnot...just play. Take time to play with new light modifiers, new set ups. See what you get. It's easy to be shown a light set up and be told "This is a good light set up" but if you take time to play, you'll find out *why* certain light set ups are great.
