Location
This image was taken during a live art installation. Five models were dressed in original designs to reflect elements found in the urban landscape such as metal, concrete, plastic, etc. Each design contributed to the overall theme of urban elements while the models posed silently or to music for several hours. Here, I shot "Paper/Wood" while she transitioned among growth and decay.Time
The image was taken at 8:00 pm on June 6, 2015.Lighting
The exhibit included a large stage surrounded by white cloth walls that were eventually illuminated with colored LEDs and synced to music. Before that, I decided to enhance the soft natural light on stage with a single strobe behind a side wall to serve as a scrim and create rim light.Equipment
Canon 5D III, 24-70mm LInspiration
The clothing designer's larger vision and attention to detail drew me to this shoot. The model's organic portrayal prompted me to add drama to her movement with light.Editing
Editing was done in Photoshop to correct color balance and eliminate shadow in the background. In my camera bag
I currently shoot with a 5D III. Lenses change frequently, but I plan ahead to minimize the load. Better and fewer glass for the road is ideal for me. I rarely carry more than two lenses. Lighting and modifiers are a whole different matter requiring their own cases.Feedback
Study the environment. Study the subject. Create a plan and then act spontaneously.
