Location
I took the background shot from Mallory Square in Key West, Florida. The foot is mine, taken in my office with the help of a low tripod.Time
Sunset for the background! That's what Mallory Square is famous for. The foot was sometime in the afternoon. I think . . .Lighting
Just the sunset - that's all it took. I took several pictures in a row and the bird happened to be in the right place in the right time. As for the foot, I used a deflected external flash to take the picture of my own foot.Equipment
For the background sunset, I used my first-ever DSLR, the Canon EOS Rebel XSI. No tripod, flash, etc. For my foot, I used my Canon 60D and a Canon external flash.Inspiration
I watched a video by Gavin Hoey in a video tutorial about a technique called "wrapping" in which you "wrap" one object in a background and then place it ON the background. So my foot is wrapped in the sunset and then placed on the sunset. It's a lot of fun.Editing
I did little post-processing on the sunset except for cropping. I detailed foot a bit. The post-processing was all involved in the "wrapping" technique. All of it was done by Photoshop. In my camera bag
Canon 5D Mark III and Canon 60D DSLRs, Canon G-15 point and shoot, Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L Telephoto Zoom Lens, Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens, Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro Lens, Canon 24-105mm f/4L Lens, circular polarizers and hoods for each lens, wired and remote shutter devices, Canon 430 EX external flash, lens cleaning materials.Feedback
Google Gavin Hoey. He has a video in which he places a Union Jack-wrapped fist on the Union Jack background.
