These are the people I love best - my Mama and my Daddy. Of course, I didn't take this picture - I restored it - sort of.
Daddy was 21 and in the Army, shipping off for Europe soon. Later he would be in the secret services for the US Army. Mama was his 16 year old girl friend he would come back and marry in 1946.
He was captured after being seriously wounded and taken to a POW camp in Germany, escaped, got to the Allies in France. He spent a year in a hospital in France, and several more months in a hospital in the States. He was a highly decorated soldier by both the US and France.
Daddy died in 1997. Mama left us to join the love of her life March 18, 2014.

What a lovely portrait Gracie I have a similar one of my parents, same story when my father returned from the war they married on Valentines Day 1946! After meeting before the war and writing to each other throughout the war years. Thanks for bringing back some of my own memories by sharing :-)

very sad but nice story of love and life! My family on both sides - Mum and Dad know what war is like. We have lost lots of members of family, including my granddad (mum's father) and 16 members of my grandmother's family in Ukraine. My mum herself was 8 and miraculously survived bombarding and escape from nazie invaders in Odessa. You have very nice parents! You can see mine on my family group portrait in my gallery.

Had to vote for this. Your Dad and my Dad, part of the greatest generation. Too bad the young of today can't be the same.

I Love this image, what a Love Story & your father sure had his challenges as a soldier. It always amazes me what these men survived through. Your Mama certainly must have had many anxious times & waited each day for those letters!

He was gone a long time. This is before they were married. They got married as soon as he returned home. If you saw a picture of my son, you'd see my daddy.
