The photo was taken underneath the US 20 bypass. It was a saturday, on a hot summer day, and I was thinking I might take it easy that day, until that is, I heard a storm approaching from the west. The first thing I did was to grab my camera bag, tripod, a windbreaker, a towel, and my sandals. I quickly headed to the truck and sat there for a bit and contemplated a location. It had to be something fairly close and something that had overhead cover. Holding an umbrella by yourself doesn't cut it as far as I'm concerned. While I sat there for a bit I prepared myself by putting 2 screw on filters onto the camera's lens, and I placed the remote into my windbreaker pouch so that I would be prepared once I arrived at the location. Now the only choice at that point was, which direction do I face ? Well, I obviously chose well. Thanks for taking the time to view, favor, and comment, I hope you enjoy the view as much as I did.

Behind The Lens

Location

Time

I'm guessing it was late in the afternoon right around 4 pm or so. I didn't have time to look, as the storm was moving rather quickly, and so was I.

Lighting

As in the case of this shot I would say be prepared for anything.

Equipment

This was taken on a Canon 40 D, on a tripod, with a 17 – 40 L lens, with a multi-function timer remote attached to the camera, and a number 4 screw on ND filter. I ended up removing one of the filter's once I was on loaction due to the current light conditions. I aslo had a towel and a lens cloth. A towel to cover the camera during the downpour, and a lens cloth, just in case the lens glass got wet.

Inspiration

I've always been fascinated with storms. The opportunity presented itself that day so I took advantage of it without hesitation.

Editing

The processing I do is highly intuitive and never really the same. The result I'm after is. It is my intention to recreate the feeling I had at that precise moment in time, and transfer that into the final result. I believe in keeping things as simple as possible.

In my camera bag

My camera body, several lenes, an assortment of filters, extra batteries, a charger, lens cloth and an extra memory card.

Feedback

Photography, while it might seem intimidating to some, in it's simplist form, is all about capturing light and manipulating light. Get to know your equipment and all the features and options you have available. Look at the various software editing programs on the market and pick a system that is right for you. Last but not least, keep it, and your photos simple, by eliminating elements that don't support your subject matter. From a foundational standpoint photography is all about learning the basics and mastering the basics and applying those skills to create something you'll be proud to share. For me I also have to say the words “Know Thyself”. Follow your fascinations despite what anyone else thinks because you never really know where they will lead you. If your really good at it, you may just find many treasures along life's path.
