Great shot. Did you take this from a ferry boat? I recognize Seattle in the background.

Thank you Kathleen. I just wish viewbug was not changing the quality. This is much crisper on my computer. I do not know what they are doing with the photo's lately but nobodies look very good anymore.

Location
This photo was taken on the West side of Seattle Washington in a community called Alki.Time
This image was shot at 1:36 in the afternoon.Lighting
It was just another normal cloudy in Washington State.Equipment
The camera was my much missed Nikon D40, the lens was a not so much missed quantaray 18-200mm lens, which I have replaced with my Nikkor 18-200mm VR lens, flash was not on, and this was handheld, no tripod, monopod, etc. I was fairly new to photography so I either shot this in Aperture priority or Program/Auto Mode.Inspiration
I saw the seagull sitting on the post and new he was about to take off, and wanted to practice shooting birds in flight and panning. I did not even realize until I got home and started post-processing that I had caught the iconic Seattle Space Needle in the background, WOW what a pleasant surprise.Editing
Yes but nothing drastic. I shoot in RAW so everything goes through Lightroom mainly because it is an easy way to covert it over to JPEG. But I also did some basic processing, things like Clarity, positioning, leveling,In my camera bag
In my bag I have my Nikon D300, A Nikkor 18-200mm VR Lens, a Sigma 10-20mm Lens, a Sigma 105 Lens, Nikkor 50mm lens, many different filters, extra battery, several extra memory cards, cleaning brushes, clothes, etc, gloves, with index finger cut off, handi-wipes, aspirin, sinus medication, note pad, pens, hair ties.Feedback
Gosh I wish I could be more specific but this was just a matter of being in the right place when the seagull decided to take off and capturing a good shot. I guess I would just have to say practice shooting birds taking off using a panning technique and always, always keep your eyes open for opportunities to arise.
