Behind The Lens

Location

This shot was taken on the railing of my front porch after a little bit of rain. My husband spotted the snail so I gently picked him up and did a little photo shoot with the little guy, and then I released him to my garden.

Time

Good question. I believe it was mid afternoon.

Lighting

all natural lighting

Equipment

I was using a Nikon D300, hand held. I believe I was using my 18-200 lens and no flash.

Inspiration

I have always like close-up/macro photography and I have never had a chance to shoot a snail before, and he was a semi-willing candidate. The rain on the railing made it extra neat.

Editing

I usually only do a little tiny bit. Bringing up or taking down highlights. Little contrast here or there, just small little tweeks.

In my camera bag

My gear consists of a Nikon D300, Nikon D40, Nikkor 18-200VR lens, Nikkor 50mm lens, Sigma 10-20mm lens, Sigma 105mm Macro lens, tripod, spare batteries, spare memory cards, a bunch of filters I never use, and a Lowe Pro Slingshot 300 AW bag.

Feedback

Well snails are pretty slow so.............I would just say take your time. Play with settings, different filters, etc. Thank your subject and place them some place safe when you are done.
