You have a moody, dramatic silhouette. Bare trees have their own beauty when captured right.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph was taken while walking along the bike path in the Phoenix/Talent/Ashland area of Southern Oregon. The path winds along a creek at times, there are bridges and beautiful trees. Very picturesque.

Time

The photograph was taken in the late afternoon, though with the cloud cover and stormy weather it is hard to tell.

Lighting

The lighting was spectacular. The clouds were dark with a small amount of sun to give the photograph a strong contrast. The grey and black was the perfect background for highlighting the silhouetted tree. I think the angle enhanced the beauty of this capture.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D5000, 300 mm lens. I zoomed in for the most dramatic effect. Mother nature did the rest.

Inspiration

Inspiration was the drama, racing clouds and movement. I was drawn to the trees and contrast. As I was taking the shot I was hoping I would be able to capture and convey what I was seeing.

Editing

Post-processing is minimal. Simple fine tuning to enhance the drama. No photoshop. I tend to crop photos to get the best presentation.

In my camera bag

I always have the essentials, an extra battery, Scandisk, cleaning solution and extra lens covers. I have a Tamron 16-300 mm and my Nikon 18-55 mm. For my cameras sake I keep a rain duck for protection since I live in the Pacific Northwest where a shower can occur at any time.

Feedback

To get a great photo you have to get out there. Timing, light, and subject aren't always something you can create. Multiple shots and various angles of the same image is very beneficial. I love taking photographs in all types of weather and lighting conditions. Work on different levels and be creative. Get out of your comfort zone and try all types of subject matter. Keep shooting and inspiring others!
