Location
This photo was taken at home, in the kitchen. The screws were lying on a sheet of blue construction paper, on the kitchen table.Time
The photo was taken mid-day, just after lunch.Lighting
The photo was taken in mixed lighting. The kitchen window ( off-frame, right) provided nice light, while the overhead lamp, with its tungsten bulbs, gave additional warm light to the already brown screws.Equipment
I captured this image with a Canon Rebel EOS SL1, and a Canon 18-55mm lens with a +2 close-up filter attached. I placed the camera flat on the table, then I propped up the front of the camera lens, with my cell phone, to get the angle I wanted.Inspiration
The screws were jumbled on top of the glass table for a household project. As I ate lunch, I stared at the screws and thought they looked interesting. I decided to take a photo or two and was dissatisfied with the results. I placed a sheet of blue paper under the screws to add some color and contrast. "Ta-Da" that did it! The blue paper isolated the screws from the background and provided a much-needed element of complementary color.Editing
Post-processing in Photoshop was minimal. - As always, a quick crop was needed. After that, I made a small tweak in "Curves", which provided additional color, contrast, and detail. I then boosted the color with "Vibrance" to 15% or so. That's it.In my camera bag
My camera-pack contains a Canon EOS SL1 body, Canon 18-55mm 3.5 lens, Canon 75-300mm 4.0 lens; Polarizer filter; sets of Neutral Density and Close-up filters; external flash unit; 2 flashlights, and 2X batteries for all. A Swiss Army Knife; protein bars; wool cap, socks, and gloves; lighter; sunscreen and survival kit.Feedback
Pay attention to EVERYTHING around you, even the MUNDANE! You'd be surprised at how many photographic opportunities surround you when investigating smaller things! GET CLOSE and EXPLORE the finer details of objects previously unnoticed! Seemingly simple things have intrinsic qualities that can be whimsical, intriguing, complex, or even beautiful when explored with the right frame of mind. Shoot, shoot, shoot, experiment, then shoot some more. Most importantly... Have Fun !!!
