Behind The Lens
Location
I took this picture in the West part of Iceland, in Snaefellsnes peninsula. The main subject is the Mount Kirkjufell.Time
This picture was taken in the late October during an amazing sunrise.Lighting
I used my favourite lens for this picture: Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM. By this lens I obtained a wide angle able to keep the waterfall and the Mount Kiskjufell as well. I used a good depth of field (f/10) in order to have enough sharpness of the details and a good efficiency of the lens.Equipment
The camera was a Canon 6D equipped with the wide angle lens Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM. I shot with my Benro Travel Angel tripod and without flash.Inspiration
The photographic opportunities in Iceland are virtually endless. I remember very well that morning in the end of the last October. It was very cold and during the previous night there was a light snowfall. The wind was strong but the desire to go out to take some photographs was a lot. Initially there was a light rain and the sky was covered with clouds, but at the right moment, when the sun appeared from the horizon, the clouds have thinned and gave us this beautiful sunrise.Editing
I took three identical pictures of the same subject at three different exposure levels. So i blended the three exposure by HDR in Lightroom and than I did a light dodge and burn in Photoshop in order to improve the lights and shadows effect. I deliberately left everything as natural and harmonious as possible without excessive force processing. In my camera bag
I always use my camera Canon 6D. My favourite lens at the moment is the Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM. It is fantastic and even if is unusal, I love to shot some kind of portrait by this lens. In my bag can not miss my Canon EF 24-70mm f/4 L IS USM. Especially for the picture of landscapes and for the milky way I use Samyang 14mm f/2.8 IF ED UMC Aspherical. This is a very nice lens and very useful also for architecture and street photography. In my bag can not miss the plate in ND filter to 3, 6 and 10 stop and the GND filter to 6 stops as well. Indispensable is the tripod Benro Travel Angel C28 with Manfrotto head.Feedback
I can suggest to everyone that the best time to make photos like this is at sunrise or at sunset. I love the sunrises because in these moments, the light becomes hot and do not create areas of excessive dark/light contrast. The whole picture is more harmonious. I can also suggest to photographer not search his/her shooting eager, but to wait quietly for the right time, to build the image first in his/her head that the viewfinder. This picture was taken in Iceland. Iceland is a fantastic place: it is full of photographic opportunities. So, I can suggest to travel a lot, because it is a fundamental prerogative for artistic and personal growth.
