My third picture from Kyoto. What a nice coincident to have now Kyoto in RGB. The red one from the Torii at the Fushimi Inari Shrine, the blue one from a blue hour shot at the ancient streets of Kyoto and now the green one from Sagano Bamboo Forest, located in Arashiyama on the west outskirts of Kyoto, Japan.
As like the Torii Shot I can really recommend to get up early. I arrived at 6.00 at the morning and had around an hour before it got crowded. To be there alone is also a so much nicer experience as with hundreds of Tourist later on. I hope you like it.

I feel as if this captures the sense of living in an emerald. I now know what it would be like to view the world from inside an emerald.

I love the lines, the angle, the colors, and the contrast. Wonderful image!!!

Location
The photo was taken at the Sagano Bamboo Forest, located in Arashiyama on the west outskirts of Kyoto, Japan.Time
As like on many other famous spots all over the world, key is to get up early. In this case I arrived at 6.00 at the morning and had around an hour before it got crowded. To be there alone is also a so much nicer experience as with hundreds of Tourist later on. To be a bit quicker at the very best spot, I scouted the place one day earlier.Lighting
Lighting is very tricky here. In the very early morning is it due to the bamboo very dark => So you getting very long exposures which leads to very blurry bamboo trees. I wasn't sure at that morning if I would like it or hate it. Therefore, I waited until the sun came out and took exposure brackets from -4 to +4. The result you see here is a manual blend of 5 different pictures. Four pictures for the equal lighting over the whole picture and one for the 2 ladies. Due to the walking speed of the girls I had to go on a higher ISO to get a sharp shot.Equipment
The used equipment was: Canon EOS 5D Mark III with a EF11-24mm f/4L USM lens at 14mm on a tripod.Inspiration
I wanted to take that shot years ago when I lived in Japan but due to bad weather I never got a chance. Normally I try to get the scenes without anybody in it but since this trip I somehow changed that. You have to wait maybe a bit longer but especially in Japan where women wear a lot of kimonos it gives the pictures so much more scale and a typical Japanese touch.Editing
As mentioned before, there was quite a bit post processing to combine 5 different exposures to this one picture. As I don't like the results of an automated HDR software I blend all the pictures manually together. What helps here a lot are alpha channel masks. After blending everything together I worked on the contrast, the colors, sharpening and noise. Doing this after the blend makes the picture much more natural. In my camera bag
When I travel I normally carry: Canon EOS 5D Mark III, EF11-24mm f/4L USM, EF24-70mm F/2.8L USM II, EF70-200mm F/2.8L USM II, Gitzo Travel Tripod, Lee Big Stopper Filter, Batteries and CF Cards.Feedback
Be early and be patient. Everything else will come automatically to you.
