Location
The photo was taken in front of the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The two towers are quite impressive but from my point of view this one was my favorite shot.Time
As I was shooting the 3 towers from several sport it got quite late when i took this one. Actually it was one of my last shots of the day because the security staff wasn't too happy with my tripod. So it was quite late which explains the black sky. Normally I would prefer blue hour but as it was long gone, the sky isn't that dominant and the building itself is lighten up, I believe it wasn't that important.Lighting
The image it 2 steps underexposed due to the very black sky and the quite bright light form the building itself. Overall I needed just one image to realize this picture - which surprised me. Normally you have to blend at least 2 to 3 images.Equipment
I was shooting with an Canon 5D Mark III and the Canon 11-24mm 4.0. I really love that lens and this picture shows exactly why. 11mm at an full frame camera is just awesome.Inspiration
I really like to shoot pictures straight up. A lot of my pictures in my portfolio are straight up. Furthermore, I love very wide angle pictures. I really like the effects of the lens and the feeling of hight which concludes by that effect.Editing
Yes of cause there was some post processing, That night had almost full moon but due to the long exposure it wasn't sharp. I could have blended a sharp moon in but the focus of the picture should be on the building. This is why i decided to remove it.In my camera bag
As this shoot was taken during a trip to Singapore and Malaviya, I tried to reduce my equipment to a minimum. Everybody is defining this minimum by him-/herself. In my case it was a stable travel tripod, my 5D Mark III and two lenses. The 11-24mm and the 24-70mm is for me a perfect travel kid. Depending on the trip I add the 70-200mm lens.Feedback
From my point of view this shot isn't too hard to reproduce. You have to have a quite clear night, a stable tripod and a very wide angle camera - lens combination. Furthermore you have to catch a moment without security and thats it. Move around the building and just try some perspectives. This wonderful building offers everything photographers dream of.
