Location
This photo was taken on Drake's Island in Wells, Maine. For a family reunion we rented a house right on the beach. This is the path that we took from the house to the beach. It was a memorable trip so this photo is quite special to me.Time
This photo was shot in mid-September as the sun was setting, about 6:30pm. We had just started our evening walk to the beach as the sun emerged from the clouds and swept across the beach grasses.Lighting
For most of this trip the skies were cloudy and overcast. This was one of the rare days when we had sun. It was still scattered clouds though and the sun was popping in and out from the clouds.Equipment
This was shot with handheld with a Nikon D90. I used the 18-55 kit lens at f7.1 for 1/200 of second.Inspiration
Over the years I have seen many photos of beach grasses. I have created a number of images of beach grasses myself. This was one of a series of beach grass photos I shot during our stay. What makes this photo my favorite of that series is the path itself and the texture of the grass. Its inviting you to you to the beach and you can feel the sand between your toes.Editing
I processed this photo by bringing the shadow detail out and reducing the highlights in the sun. I also reduced the highlights in the sky.In my camera bag
I always pack my camera bag based on the type of shooting I expect to be doing on that particular outing. On this day I knew that it was going to be a casual walk on the beach so all I had was my D90 and the kit lens. I don't think I was actually carrying my camera bag.Feedback
I always carry a camera whenever or where ever I am, whether it is a DSLR or point and shoot. I don't want to miss an opportunity.
