Location
This photo was taken in Grand Rapids, MI. At the time I was in school and I was trying to experiment with lighting and night photography.Time
This photo was taken late at night. I wanted it to be as dark as possible to get as many stars as I couldLighting
Luckily I didn’t have to do much with this one. The setting lit up the power lines well without making it difficult to see the stars.Equipment
Not all equipment is branded! I actually tried to take this with a tripod but, with the limitation on how close I could get to it, I wasn’t getting the right result. I ended up propping my camera up on the ground against a rock to get a better angle for the proportions.Inspiration
The night sky was very clear this particular night and the lighting/height of the pole made it interesting.Editing
I did have to lighten the stars slightly and remove some of the red coming from the lights. In my camera bag
I feel that too much equipment can become more of a hinderance than helpful, therefore I tend to keep my bag simple. Always have a spare battery and an extra SD card, maybe a different lens and a flash if you think you may need it.Feedback
Try to get the most dramatic angle you can. It really pushed the depth of the photo. The sky will also need to be very clear!
