Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken from my bed. I used to wake up every morning to this stream of light and I’d run my hands through it.

Time

This was taken in the morning.

Lighting

What really intrigued me about this photo was how the strip of light created depth. Was there two hands reaching towards each other?

Equipment

This was shot on a Canon Rebel T5 with the kit lens.

Inspiration

At the time I was taking a college photography class. All the discussion about lighting and shadow intrigued me to see what would happen with this particular situation.

Editing

Other that make it black and white, not much! When it was in color, the shadow was distinguishable from the true hand. By making it black and white I made the photo more difficult to interpret, adding intrigue.

In my camera bag

I typically have my Rebel T5 and kit lens. Occasionally I’ll use a manual 35mm or 50mm lens.

Feedback

Mess around with your hand in order to get the shadow how you want it. The angle of the light can really change how your shadow lays on the wall.
