Behind The Lens

Location

Great photos can be captured anywhere. With a black sheet for a backdrop, this shot was created in my basement after raiding the fridge.

Time

A friend stopped by the house one evening for some fun creating images. We started after dinner and ended a hour or two later.

Lighting

We used a single Paul C. Bluff Alienbee for the lighting. The power was set high enough to overpower any ambient light in the room.

Equipment

My camera was a Canon 5d Mark III with the EF85mm f/1.2L II USM lens. I shot free hand.

Inspiration

We did not have any preperception for this shot. Just a couple of friends hanging out and creating images we hope others might enjoy too. We knew we wanted to create an image with the focus on lips, but the rest was just "in the moment" imagination.

Editing

Post processing was just basic color adjustment.

In my camera bag

Your best camera is the one you have! I will shoot an image with my iPhone or my Canon 5d and everything in between.

Feedback

My best advice is learn the basic and let your imagination run. Don't be confined by the rules. Do what is pleasing to your eye. Like in the matrix, "There is no spoon!"
