Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in my front yard in Southern California

Time

This was taken on a bright Sunday morning at about 10AM.

Lighting

The lighting was bright and outstanding. The sun was still rising in the morning

Equipment

I used my old and trusty Canon 7D II along with my Canon 100 macro USM Ii. A fantastic combination

Inspiration

The flowers were newly opened and they were attracting a lot of bee activity. I sat for 45 minutes trying to get shots with the bees on the flowers.

Editing

I did the usual post processing as this was shot in raw. In addition, I decided to play with Nik Collection HDR software and created this wonderful effect bringing out the flowers and the bee.

In my camera bag

Currently I am in transition to mirrorless. I have a Canon R3 and R5. I still have my 7D II and a 90D but I will be selling them both. The main lenses I own are the Canon 400 DO, 100-500L, 70-100 2.8 III and 100-400 L II

Feedback

Get a high quality macro lens and be patient. The camera plays a smaller role than good glass. Sit the the flowers and bees and you might be amazed at the shots you get.
