Thanks so much for the compliments Saunie. What you see are explosions and clouds of smoke from hot lava entering cold water of the Pacific Ocean.

This instantly opened a whole category for me. 'Dangerous eye candy' right there. Your effort to get this is written all over the shot. Congrats

I took this photo in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, at Kilauea’s East Rift Zone showing lava’s point of entry in to the ocean. Kalapana, Big Island, Hawaii, USA.Time
7/17/08, 5:21:05 PMLighting
Photographed in the early evening to capture the erupting lava and clouds. That day a beautiful sunset light added to that magic moment.Equipment
I used Canon EOS 20D, Canon 18.0-55.0 mm @ 55.0 mm., Manfrotto tripod.Inspiration
Kilauea had been erupting for over 20 years, but every time I traveled to the Big Island, it went underground. In 2008, I was finally in the right place at the right time.Editing
Shot RAW. I adjusted the light/contrast, sharpened. Enhanced the eruption. In my camera bag
I use only Canon equipment EOS70D, EOS80D. 3 zoom lenses. 100-400mm. 28-135 mm. 18-55mm. Manfrotto tripod. Manfrotto Backpack 50. B+H ND Filter 8x.Feedback
For this type of shot, I wish I could stay on location 24 hours, from sunrise to sunrise. The volcano offers a lot of incredible moments and the more time you spend there, the more you have a chance to capture something unique. When I was there, the viewing area had a party atmosphere with hundreds of people talking and having a good time. My advice is to concentrate on your photography and save the socializing for later. If you get distracted by conversations, you might lose that once-in-a-lifetime shot.
