The sun was setting and the sky turned this beautiful pink that complimented her dress Dale. And she is a beautiful delightful young lady.

Behind The Lens

Location

There is a wonderful park near my home that is a favorite destination point for photographers. It offers a wonderful backdrop of nature for model shoots and bridal formals. This photo was taken on the long pier that extends over the lake.

Time

Sunset always provides a sweet light for portraits and during this shoot the sky turned a beautiful pink which was a wonderful contrast with the brides flowers and flowers.

Lighting

I wanted the portrait of this bride to have a soft and creamy look, so I used a long focal length and shot at a wide open f-stop to create a soft blurred background and a nice bokeh.

Equipment

When ever I am shooting portraits my go to lens is my 70-200 canon L lens. I usually open up to f 2.8 and I shoot at a focal length of 200mm. This helps create the soft creamy backgrounds and allows the subject to be the main focus in the image.

Inspiration

A beautiful girl all dressed up at a beautiful location, what more could a portrait photographer ask for?

Editing

I processed this image in Adobe Lightroom then did some color and contrast enhancements in photoshop using the curves and levels adjustments.

In my camera bag

When planning for a portrait session I will pack my canon 5d with a 70-200mm f 2.8 lens, along with a 28-70 portrait f 2.8 lens. A tripod, a reflector, and a flash for fill to brighten the models eyes. Brushes, combs and lipstick are also brought along for quick touch ups during the session.

Feedback

Shooting portraits can be a wonderful experience for both the photographer and the model. The key to successful sessions is making sure the model is relaxed and at ease during the session. Meet before hand and get to know your model and even preview the location. Discuss expectations and even make a list of possible poses and sites at the location to help the transitions on the day of the shoot go smoother. Playing music when possible during a portrait session is also a great way to make the session a fun and relaxing experience.
