Isn't it amazing how the young fawns will obey their mother and stay frozen in one spot until she returns! If they do move you have really spooked them or the mother has been gone for too long because something has happened to her and the fawn will turn to you for help. Great shot!

also invading the space of a fawn is very dangerous, predators may be watching every move a person takes to get their 'admired' photo

That's one of the closest baby deer shots iv seen

Behind The Lens
Location
At dawn I was heading out to take care of our chickens and noticed that it appeared that a doe had just given birth to a fawn behind the chicken coop. So as not to scare her, I quietly finished up my morning chores. Later on went back to see if they were still there and saw that she had parked the new born under a Christmas tree behind the chicken coop. I was excited that she had parked the baby and ran for my camera.Time
This is one of my favorite photos, being able to capture this little one bedded down only after a few hours of being born. I think of it as a chance encounter, since it is rare to witness new life coming into the world and to capture this little beauty was incredible. The photo captured was only a mere couple hours after being born in the early morning. Looking back I wished I had taken the day off from work so that I could have captured more beautiful images of this little one.Lighting
The mother had tucked the newborn fawn under the Christmas tree where she was partially hidden. Thankfully I was able to spot her as the sun was coming up over the trees since she was nestled in under the branches of the tree. Luckily I was able to get a couple of shots from two different views. The morning sun was just coming up behind us over the trees which helped illuminate her.Equipment
This was taken with my Canon 80D with a Sigma 150-500mm lens and taken hand held. I like to have my cameras ready at all times in the event that a magic moment appears.Inspiration
Capturing this photo was a once in a lifetime opportunity for me. We see deer throughout the year on our property, but to be able to capture the moment as a new life is just entering our world was incredible. Who knows when I will be able to witness and capture such another event. I am thankful for the doe who gave birth to her to have parked the fawn on our property and so close to our house and that she thought this was a safe place for her new born considering how noisy in the morning it can get with the chickens and ducks out and about. She was literally less than 10 feet from our chicken coop. I am a nature lover and her big blue eyes gazing up at me was mesmerizing. Her eyes were the only movement from her as she sat there silently watching me. It was an incredible experience to capture this beauty and is one of my favorite photos.Editing
The only alterations to the photo was cropping and applying a shake reduction. So as not to frighten her I stayed back a considerable distance. I was so excited to see her, my hands were shaking as I captured her photo.In my camera bag
I carry both of my Canon cameras, the 80D and the T5 which was my first camera. Most of my photos are now taken with my 80D, but my T5 is always with me. The T5 is usually set up with my Canon 75-300 mm lens for landscape photography. I utilize the 80D for my wildlife and action photography. For wildlife photography I always carry my Sigma 150-500mm lens, but have recently purchased the Sigma 150-600 lens with a 1.4 teleconverter. In the Winter, I try to capture the Bald Eagles who migrate to our area and I needed a lens with a further reach. In addition, I also carry my tripod along with a wireless remote for both cameras. I also have a backup tripod in my car so I have one wherever I go. I utilize the tripod and remote for most of my landscapes. The tripod is a necessary essential for capturing moving water. I also carry a lens cleaning kit along with several filters for my lens, along with a back up battery and memory cards. I had a memory card fail during one cold Winter and was devastated by the loss of photos. I always now carry back ups.Feedback
My advice to anyone would be to enjoy what you love. The Viewbug community has provided so much inspiration for me. It has given me the drive to venture out and capture the beautiful scenic landscapes of our area and to finding those little gems that are tucked away while exploring them. You never know when that special moment will reveal itself before you so I believe in being prepared and having your equipment ready. Even though my daily routine is hectic at times, I also try to find those little daily moments when you can just stop and enjoy your surroundings. If you take the time to listen and observe what is around you, those magic moments can present themselves. Don't get discouraged, there has been many field trips that I have taken dozens or more photos to only come home and not like any of them. I just go back out under more suitable conditions and try again. Most importantly is to have fun.
