This photo was taken in Tucson, Arizona. We have the amazing Desert Museum here which is a museum of living desert animals. I went one day and spent hours in the hummingbird area just taking pictures.Time
This photo was taken in the middle of the afternoon which, I know.... I know...... most of the time it’s a photography faux pas. However, the area I was in had no direct light and a ton of ambient light so it all worked out.Lighting
It was so sunny that day! Tucson, Arizona is hot and sunny so many times, photography in the middle of the day just doesn’t work out. The ambient light in the area I was in was perfect for the shot so I got away with it.Equipment
Nikon D5500 with a Nikon 70-300mm lens and a very steady hand - this hummingbird was the size of my thumb.Inspiration
I had always wanted to do some hummingbird macros. I was board that day so I figured I would go out and give it a shot. I’m so glad I did.Editing
I’m not big on post-processing to be honest. I like my photos to look pretty close to the original as humanly possible. This photo was cropped a little and I brought out the color just a bit. This image is a pretty close duplicate to the original RAW image. In my camera bag
All of the normal stuff.... lenses, extra batteries, external flash, etc. I like to take photographs while I hike so I try not to load down my pack with extra unnecessary weight.Feedback
Just go out and do it! And do a lot of it. My favorite quote is “Your first 10,000 photos are your worst.” I don’t know who said it but I whole heartedly believe it. There is no way to get good without doing it a lot.
