Behind The Lens
Location
New York City's China Town. Mott and Moscow streets.Time
Late evening, after dinner, as my wife and family were window shopping.Lighting
Used the available light of the streets and stores around me. Chose a shutter speed that I felt was right for the lighting and that would give me a steady shot. I chose 1/25th of a second @ f 4.0 ISO 3200. Hand held.Equipment
Used a Canon T3i with a Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens @ 24mm. Handheld.Inspiration
I was looking for a shot of the Freedom Tower and knowing that this was as close as I was going to get this night I found a side street that had a view of it. I also found the activity and lighting on the street in front of it interesting.Editing
Converted original to B&W, adjusted highlights and shadows and saturation in some colors to bring out detail in shadows in lightroom. In my camera bag
At the time it was a Canon T3i as my primary and a T3 as a back up. My go to lens is the Canon 18-135mm. I also carry a Sigma 10-20mm, a Canon 60mm f/2.8 a 8mm fisheye and a Sigma 75-300mm. I have since replaced the T3 for a Canon 70D which is now my main body and replace the sigma 75-300mm for a Sigma 150-600mm CFeedback
For this shot I walked up and down Mott Street and chose the side street I wanted to use and waited for the the right amount of activity. I did not want to much vehicle traffic in the shot both on the side street and the main street. Not being sure if I would get a useable shot I went for it anyway, took a couple of different shots, some kneeling and some standing. This was the shot I liked. If you have an idea or image in your mind, don't be afraid to give it a try. You might be pleasantly surprised.
