I photographed all the elements for this image awhile ago. This is a self portrait and I wanted to show how your life can be crazy, constant changes and just swirling craziness, but I wanted to show myself standing strong through it all, and being at peace with it.

I agree with the ones who say this is art: it’s something half a way between photography and painting. Amazing and beautiful.

Location
This image was taken on my front lawn, we are lucky enough to own a acre of land which is surrounded my huge maples treesTime
About a week before I took this image, my boys and I went outside and collected two huge garbage full of leaves that they were going to throw around me, which they were pretty excited about, lol. It was mid-afternoon and it was about 5 degrees celsius out with a very strong cold wind, I was feezing by the end of it.Lighting
I wanted the lighting to look similar throughout the image, I was lucky it was a cloudy day. This is all natural light!Equipment
I used a Canon 6D with my 24-105mm lens. This was on my Oben tripod and I used my canon wireless remote controlInspiration
I have had a lot going on in my life lately and I felt like I was surrounded by chaos! So I wanted to show that in an image, the leaves flying past and around me is the chaos, but I wanted to be in the center of it calm and strong, which is what I was trying to be in my actual life.Editing
Yes! The leaves were added afterwards, as was the movement of my hair and dress, and then I hand painted light and shadows as well as hand coloured it as well. This was about an 8 + hour edit =)In my camera bag
I have my Canon 6D, 24-105mm, 50 mm 1.4, tripod, remote control, extra batteries and plenty of memory cards. Those are my main pieces in my bag!Feedback
To capture conceptual or surreal image it takes lots of practice with not only timing while using the remote or self-timer as well as with photoshop. Patience with yourself while shooting and editing and just have fun with it, that is the most important thing. You may have this amazing idea in your mind and when you are finished with it, it may just be a flop, but that is ok! It is a learning experience and should be fun!
