Location
This was taken in a city/town park. Franklin North Carolina, the park is called the Green Way. The bridge itself is one of several in the park, but this one really spoke to me.Time
This photo was taken well after midnight in the early spring.Lighting
The lighting in this photo is a combination of lanterns and a soft area light. I was originally against the use of visible lanterns, but in the end it allowed for some much needed depth.Equipment
This was taken with my Fujifilm XT-1, an 18-135 kit lens. Ravelli tripod 72 inches with pistol grip. The three visible lights are actually gas station cheap lanterns, but they really did the trick for creating the mood here. I also used a soft area light to help with focus and fill out some of the colors.Inspiration
The subjects in this photo had just started dating, and the puppy love cycle was in full swing. It allowed a little more playfulness during the shoot, but the subjects were more committed to helping me create the image. It was really just an idea that struck us when we arrived.Editing
I did a bit of post, I love more contrast and really pulling colors out. But I'm still a novice to light room even now. The reality is I spent so much time obsessing over every slider and adjustment I'm not sure what was actually done. I just editted till I felt it was truly done.In my camera bag
I keep my Fujifilm XT-1 with the 18-135 lens. A multitude of flashlights, lanterns, area lights, spare batteries, and two flashes. I have rotated filters and straps but my kit is very spartan. Its been teaching me to think around the problems.Feedback
Time. These images can happen spur of the moment during the day, but at night your playing the waiting game. You could double expose, composite the images, or do like I did and just request your subjects not move. This shot took almost an hour to compose because I didn't know what I know now. Its a different look when you pull it out of the camera this way though, really worth the effort. Patience is something else you need at night. The whole shoot took three or four hours for a handful of shots. Night photography can be rewarding, just take some time and explore it.
