Location
This was taken in Ranchos Palos Verdes in southern California.Time
It was taken just as the sun was setting.Lighting
The lighting is pretty straight forward. The only light in the photo was from the sun. One thing to note is that this photo is a 3 shot HDR (High Dynamic Range).Equipment
I used a Nikon D80, tripod, 18-200mm lens (at 18 mm).Inspiration
I love taking landscape photos and the rocks and cliffs at Rancho Palos Verde are very beautiful. The sunset was very nice but I didn't want just a standard sunset shot looking right at the sun. I used the HDR method so that I would be able to get proper exposure throughout the entire exposure range of the scene.Editing
There was a fair bit of post processing involved in order to create the HDR. I started in Photomatix which created the original HDR image. I then brought the bracketed photos and the combined HDR image into Photoshop and remixed the photo to correct the problem areas that I had in Photomatix. In my camera bag
Nikon D800, Nikon 16-35mm f3.5, Nikon 50mm f1.8, Nikon 80-400mm F4.5.Feedback
I used aperture priority mode on my camera and I had it auto bracketing. Be sure to put the camera on a tripod and don't be afraid to take a lot of bracketed sets.
