My first attempt at burning and spinning steel wool. The reflection in the pond made for a nice added effect.

Location
At a pond on my in-law's property.Time
It was taken during blue hour right after sunset.Lighting
The only lighting was the ambient light and the light that the burning steel wool made.Equipment
I used my Nikon D800, a wide angle lens, tripod, shutter release cable, steel wool, a small whisk, and a chain.Inspiration
I had seen some other photos of sparks and wanted to learn how to make one myself. I thought that the reflection of the light off the pond would add a nice effect.Editing
I didn't do much post processing. I brightened up the image a little bit and added a touch of sharpening. In my camera bag
I normally carry my Nikon D800, Nikon 16-35mm f3.5, Nikon 50mm f1.8 and a Nikon 70-300mm f4.5.Feedback
The best advice is to have someone help you (either spinning the wool or pushing the shutter). Other than that just get out there and experiment.
