Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Saint-Pierre on Miquelon Island. I travelled to Newfoudland and I was curious about this french island. The link with Ukrain is the colors : No geographic or historic link.

Time

It was afternoon. The wheather was good and I walked in the little town to discover the houses, way of life, inhabitants, architecture.

Lighting

It was an ordinary light, without shadows. It was not a problem, because the style is minimalist with a large yellow part, and I was interested with the contrast of colors, and the geometric aspect. Opposite to my predilection for light and shadows, I wanted a completly uniform area on the yellow part.

Equipment

I use a Nikon D300S and a zoom Nikkor 70-200 mm. This allows you to keep a little distance to photograph calmly

Inspiration

When I discovered "Say not to war project", I immediatly thought to this photo because of the colours which are thoses of the UKrainian flag. This war is a tragedy and I wanted to testify to support this courageous Ukrainian people, so I added the text. The blue window can be seen as a symbol : an opening about peace. But, as it is closed and screened, may be it could be very long and very difficult. It's a double symbol. If we are optimistic, the first way is the peace, if we are pessimistic, a long war is predictable

Editing

Some sharpness and contrast.

In my camera bag

I always use the same camera : my Nikon D 300S, a lense 16-85 mm Nikkor, a lense 70-200 mm Nikkor, a tripod, filters for long exposure and polarized filter to saturate colors. It's quite old now and it doesn't work properly, it could be a good time to change it !

Feedback

In cities, big or small, there is always a lot of things to see. Large view or details, people, architecture, street photos. At any time, anywhere, there is always thousands of subjects, it's inexhaustible and fascinating. Let yourself be carried away by strolling along the streets, and observe. You will find !
