Location
We have spent 12 years away from our home country of UK and we returned home again around 4 years ago in 2016. As we had moved to a different part of the UK from where we originated from, we were exploring our new surroundings and took ourselves on a "memory lane" trip by tram to the very end of the line at Starr Gate past the South Shore of Blackpool. We hopped off the tram and then set off to walk the 5 miles or so along the new promenade back towards the centre of Blackpool when we discovered this mirror ball. It was a glorious summer's day - unusual for the north west UK and the blue sky behind the ball made a fabulous backdrop with just the odd bit of white cloud.Time
This would have been around lunchtime. Certainly after midday as it takes us around 2 hours from our home to take the bus and tram to South Shore and we rarely leave the house before 10:00hrs.Lighting
I just wanted to capture as much of the coloured swirl of footpath but trying to avoid getting myself in the image without it being off angle.Equipment
A fairly new camera to me, I hadn't had my D3100 that long and had been used to the brightness of the light in Cyprus, so our return to UK meant a new learning curve of never being able to rely on good, clear or sunny weather on a daily basis. It's currently pouring with rain as I write this on 23 July 2020.Inspiration
The mirror ball found me I think, rather than I went looking for it. I took quite a few photos this day....Editing
Cropping and perhaps fixing of clarity and/or brightness is as far as I go with my photography. I don't use Photoshop / Lightroom or any fancy procedures - I don't have the inclination or patience to fiddle and learn. I line up the photo, testing the angle or if I should zoom closer or not, filling my viewfinder (I only use live view for video) and shoot. In my camera bag
Depends - sometimes it's just the camera and the kit lens which came with it. Other occasions I may have my larger zoom lens as well, but I usually plan those days and swap the lens completely. I don't like carrying loads of stuff with me. But I always have my mobile for location info, especially when going to unfamiliar/new places.Feedback
Advice for others? Hmmmm, not really - I just shoot what I see. I try not to take multiple shots of the same thing, I prefer to rely on what I see after the very first shot. If I do take multiples, it's always the first image which I'm happier with.
