Walking around the back streets in the old part of Nicosia, Lefkosa (in the occupied area of north Cyprus) we came upon this little gem. A cafe all about Art. The capture itself was made all the better by the guy sitting on the floor outside engrossed with whatever was taking place on his mobile phone. He seemed quite happy about it, whatever it was :-)Time
Early afternoon as we were making our way back towards our hotel after lunch and a drink at a bar just outside the walls of Buyuk Han (the Great Inn), a former Ottoman rest stop for travellers and salesmen.Lighting
Nothing special about the lighting, I just spotted the entrance of the cafe which made an interesting spectacle. I didn't see the man at the time as I use the viewfinder rather than the screen display. It was only when I adjusted my view to fill the lens that I realised he was sitting there.Equipment
Hand held Nikon D3100 with the standard 18-55mm kit lens.Inspiration
The floor tiles initially captured my attention followed by the colour of the wooden painted doorway and the potted plant. The colours just worked well together.Editing
A little straightening and tightening of the clarity. In my camera bag
Depends what I think I may need, I hate lumping stuff around and when I know I'm going to be around buildings / towns / cities I usually only take the camera with the kit lens. If I'm going to be in more open areas, I may take by zoom along for the ride too but only if my husband is prepared to keep holding the rucksack while I take photos on the move.Feedback
For anyone who goes to visit the northern (Turkish) side of Nicosia be prepared to explore all alleyways for a photo opportunity. I lived in Cyprus for 12 years and visited at least twice each year but I still haven't seen everything there is to see. There's some real history in there and don't be scared to poke your head and camera lens inside open doorways!
