Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in the town of Goreme in Cappadocia, Turkey, from the high vantage point overlooking nearby valleys.

Time

I arrived at the location while it was still completely dark and started taking photos as soon as the first light appeared (so basically a couple of minutes before sunrise).

Lighting

The light was gorgeous - it created very soft colours in the sky. A nice addition was light coming directly from the hot air balloons as they were taking off.

Equipment

I used Canon 5D MK IV on a tripod with 24-105 lens attached.

Inspiration

I love hot air balloons and saw hundreds of photos of them. When I arrived to Cappadocia I knew I have to take a photo of them at sunrise with some gorgeous colours in the background.

Editing

There wasn't much post-processing done in case of this image. I mainly balanced the exposure by restoring some highlights and slightly brightening the shadows.

In my camera bag

I normally have a Canon 5D MK IV with several lenses (16-35, 24-105 and 70-300 telezoom), tripod a bunch of filters, a lot of batteries and memory cards.

Feedback

The place can be very crowded so make sure to be there really early to reserve some good spot.
