Pallas cats are found over a broad area in Central Asia. Their distribution is fragmented and they are listed as a threatened species. They are unusual in that their eye pupils are round like that of lions, tigers and other large cats rather than elliptical. They are also unusual in being diurnal hunters feeding mainly on ground squirrels, pika and birds. They are found mostly in montane and steppe habitats up to an elevation of 5000 m (16,400 ft). This cat is only about three to four months old. It is a composite photo with the Alborz Mountains in the background.
