Location
This shot was taken at the classic location for taking the shot of the 'Llanberis lone tree' at Llyn Padarn with the Snowdon mountains in the backgroundTime
The best time of day for the shot is sunrise as the view is facing directly east.Lighting
I'd suggest either bracketing your shots to capture the full range at sunrise or try and capture the shot in camera by using graduated filters.Equipment
This shot is actually a blend in the sense that I used a long exposure for the water and a much shorter exposure time for the clouds. A tripod is therefore a must. The camera used was a Nikon D810 and used a 24-70mm F2.8 lens, ISO 64, Aperture F11 at 38mm. I used Lee filters to balance the exposure.Inspiration
As well as photography I enjoy hiking and wild camping. During a few days hiking in Snowdonia I took the opportunity to bag this shot as it's just one of those places that is well know for giving a good composition.Editing
I would have done fairly little post-processing which would have been done in Lightroom and Photoshop. The main task in post was to blend the 2 different exposures i.e. sky and water. In my camera bag
I now own a Nikon D850 with a number of Nikon Lenses ranging from 16mm to 500mm, mostly zooms. For landscape photography I usually take along my 16-35mm F4, 24-70mm F2.8 and 70-200mm F2.8 along with my Lee filter system. Gitzo tripod and head.Feedback
Planning is essential so as to increase your chance of getting a great shot. Look at the location on maps and Apps, decide on the best time for taking the shot i.e. sunrise or sunset and get there with at least an hour to spare so as to find your composition and get set up with plenty of time in hand.
