Location
This was taken off the Menorcan coastTime
This was an afternoon image. TLighting
The light was quite intense but there were some clouds which gave some interest.Equipment
Nikon D850 DSLR with Nikon 70-210mm F2.8 at 160mm, F8, ISO 400 and Shutter speed 2 mins 6 secs. Used a tripod and some lee filters - ND grad and 10 stop filter.Inspiration
As soon as I saw the rock I thought of a long exposure B&W image. Nothing else at that time would really have worked.Editing
I use Lightroom to drop highlights and raise shadows. Some minor sharpening and then some dodging and burning. In my camera bag
I love my Nikon gear!! It's heavy but built like a tank so feel confident that I can take it anywhere and it will always work. I own a Gitzo 3 series tripod, again heavy, but stability rarely presents a problem for me with the weighty kit. The way I look at it I feel that sometimes I need to earn the right to take the image so hard work trekking up mountains with my gear is just that.Feedback
Experiment with filters and and different compositions. Always use a tripod for long exposures and when doing so turn off in body stabilisation.
